Since last 5 years we are regularly conducting a "Ignite" workshop in the school for 10/11/12 students with an aim of exposing students to various opportunities after their 12th. A bunch of ex-students from various fields - Engineering, Medicine, Life sciences, Ayurvedic Science, Teaching & Academics, Research, Legal profession, Entrepreneurship etc. We also have separate sessions on Personality Development, Communication Skills, Group Discussion giving the students an idea of what they can expect after their 12th. We also share the mistakes which we did - so that they get a chance to rectify them. JNVB is a small world in itself. This sometimes acts as a deterrent to the students. I am sure you all agree that the only thing which a JNVB student lags is exposure to the outside world.
Some of the alumni had also contributed towards helping financially needy students.Till now it was more or less done on an adhoc basis and we want to make it as a part of the system. We are aiming at making a small corpus fund which can act as a loan-cum-scholarship so that we can help some of the needy students. Just to put this in perspective - Last year couple of students were not able to 'buy' an application form for AIEEE. But luckily some of the teachers pooled their own money and helped to get an application form and there are some students studying in NITs and IIT and other top engg and Medical colleges in Karnataka. Towards this - many of the alumni are contributing a small part - say 200-400 per month. We are still in the process of streamlining this.
For SJC- we are planning to have a 2 day event and the budget is around 8-9 lacs - with approx 1500 people attending. THe first day will be for alumni,their spouse and kids - sports, cultural events. We will be honoring the old teachers, staff and current staff the next day. Towards this end lot of volunteers are giving their personal time and putting effort to make this function a grand success.
Towards this, we are looking for support from all the alumni. All the amount collected will be used for SJC and any left over money will be used for other alumni activities. Needless to say that the complete expenditure, accounts will be completely transparent and can be scrutinized by the alumni members.
